The end of the analogue PSTN line for the benefit of IP telephony

A major decision has been taken concerning the PSTN fixed line: its elimination.

The decision to end the RTC was taken because of the obsolescence of this technology, which was becoming too expensive to maintain. Maintaining it without maintenance risks causing malfunctions and service cuts.

However, this is not the end of fixed telephony as it is being replaced by IP telephony cm communications.

Return to the traditional line or PSTN (Switched Telephone Network)

The PSTN service allows you to make calls without a box. It is associated with the system of copper cables ending in a T plug which will not disappear.

Its roots date back to 1876 when Alexander Graham Bell developed a revolutionary invention: the telephone.

Its novelty resided in the putting in contact between two distant interlocutors in order to allow them to have a conversation in real time. This was possible thanks to a rubber membrane located in the handset of the telephone. This recorded the vibrations of the voice which were then translated in the form of an electrical signal through magnets, electrical wires and coils then, it was routed to the interlocutor by means of a copper cable.

This invention has been accompanied by various solutions in the field of telephone switchboard so as to establish the link between two interlocutors. Initially, an operator provided the links manually, but faced with the explosion of telephone calls, it became less and less manageable.

Thus, the switchboards were automated by the means of numbers assigned to each line which when dialed allowed direct communication with the desired person.

Gradually, for financial reasons, companies began to equip themselves with their own physical telephone switchboard ( PABX or IPBX). This with a view to making savings which are all the more necessary with globalization. This was accompanied by increasingly important calls abroad.

The disadvantages of RTC

Limited to one call at a time

The parties cannot receive any other calls during their conversation. If they receive another call, it will automatically be redirected to automatic messaging. This represents a shortfall for some companies who lose calls.

High costs, especially internationally

The duration of the call is taxed and operators apply a price increase. This represents significant costs especially when making calls abroad.

Uneven sound quality

The electrical signals can be altered during their transport on the copper cable reducing the quality of the communication.

The advent of IP telephony

The arrival of the Internet made it possible to set up IP telephony . Voice transmission is no longer based on a copper cable but on an internet connection. She abandons the electrical signal to prefer a translation of the voice into data.

In addition, a study carried out by ARCEP's observatory of the quality of fixed telephony service in France led to the conclusion that the performance of the IP telephone service is equal to or greater than the PSTN.

This modern solution is better suited to the needs of companies and will eventually become the standard. If for the moment, the PSTN lines are no longer marketed but nevertheless tolerated on the condition that they are already installed, they will be definitively cut off by geographic plate from 2023. It is therefore necessary to initiate the shift by adopting telephony digital.

The advantages of IP telephony over PSTN

Lower costs

The switch to all IP will be an opportunity for the company to rethink its telephone infrastructures and rationalize its fleet. All IP solutions have the advantage of centralizing and facilitating line administration. For multi-site companies, calls between sites will no longer be billed. The key: a controlled budget.

Unlike RTC, you can pool costs.

Centralization of telephony

IP telephony makes it possible to converge on the same voice, video and data network. Our solutions allow you to benefit from advantageous communication packages, a unique service and clear monthly invoicing.

What if you took the opportunity to benefit from a telephony rich in innovative features to make life easier for your employees? Launch a call in one click from your softphone on a PC, take advantage of the unique number so you never miss a call, check your voice messages from your email.

Simplify your telephony infrastructure thanks to our all IP solutions, a single interface allows you to manage all your telephone lines (switchboards, landlines, mobiles, etc.). Enough to save precious time on a daily basis.

Rich features for teamwork

Your employees, especially those from the new generation, have requirements in terms of work tools. Content, emails, contacts and business applications are accessible wherever you are with unified communications.

On a single platform accessible anywhere, at any time and on any terminal, employees have access to all their communication tools: instant messaging, emails, video conferencing, document sharing, telephony, etc. Thus, everyone collaborates more easily, wherever they are.

Better protection of your data

Finally, IP guarantees secure access to your data anywhere, reinforces the security of access to collaborative applications. Adopting an IP network will allow you to look to the future with confidence.
