Analysts: PC shipments rise for the first time since 2011 amid end of support for Windows 7

The growth turned out to be insignificant - according to various sources, from 0.6 to 2.7% per year.

In 2019, the global PC market showed growth for the first time in eight years. According to analysts, shipments of devices increased to 261-266 million units. This is stated in the reports of research companies IDC and Gartner .

Analysts at both firms recorded marginal gains, with shipments up 0.6%, according to Gartner, and 2.7%, according to IDC. At the same time, shipments of devices began to grow for the first time in the second quarter of 2018, but only in 2019 showed a stable growth throughout the entire 12 months.

The difference in data between the companies could arise due to the peculiarities of the calculation. Both firms count desktops, laptops, and hybrid tablets like the Surface, but Gartner does not count Chromebooks it desktop support.

The companies agreed that the reason for the market growth was the end of support for Windows 7. Analysts suggest that the business decided to move to Windows 10 and at the same time began to update outdated hardware due to system requirements.

IDC and Gartner also noted that the market could grow stronger. One of the "serious problems" was called the lack of Intel processors, but it was partially solved by AMD. The three largest manufacturers in 2019 were Lenovo, HP and Dell - all of them increased shipments. The fourth and fifth lines are occupied by Apple and Acer, which shipped fewer devices per year than usual.
