The WLAN indicator on the router is off. No wifi network

Today I decided to write an article on a very popular problem, when the WLAN light on the router is off and there is no Wi-Fi network. That is, when the router stopped broadcasting the Wi-Fi network. Owners of routers from different manufacturers face this problem: TP-Link, ASUS, D-Link, ZyXel, Tenda, Netis, etc. What kind of router you have is not important. If the Wi-Fi (WLAN) indicator on it has stopped lit and the Wi-Fi network has disappeared, now we will try to deal with this problem wlan.

Perhaps you have a slightly different problem when there is a Wi-Fi network, but the Internet does not work. In this case, see the article The router does not distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi. What to do?

And a separate article on Wi-Fi problems on TP-Link -  https://help-wifi.com/tp-link/tp-link-ne-rabotaet-wi-fi-router-ne-razdaet-wi-fi- set /

The WLAN indicator looks different on different routers (different manufacturers and models) . But almost every router has it. It usually blinks when wireless data is being transmitted. The bulb itself can be labeled "Wi-Fi", "2.4GHz", or "5GHz". Or maybe just an icon Wi-Fi indicator on the router

In any case, when the WLAN indicator on the router is off or flashing, this is no longer normal. As you already understood, WLAN is Wi-Fi. Wireless network.

The WLAN (Wi-Fi) lamp on the router is off

Most often, the problem is as follows:

Accidentally pressed a button to turn off Wi-Fi, which is found on many routers. After pressing it, the router stops distributing the Wi-Fi network, and of course the WLAN light does not light up. At the same time, the router continues to work, distributes the Internet via cable. But the device no longer sees the Wi-Fi network, since it does not exist.

Some kind of software glitch. In this case, rebooting, resetting, or flashing the router helps. Also, you need to check the Wi-Fi settings in the router control panel.

Broken router. I have already seen cases when the router stopped distributing the Wi-Fi network due to a technical breakdown. If all else fails, the Wi-Fi indicator is still off, then you need to carry the router for repair (possibly under warranty) , or buy a new one. If you have such a case, then see the article on choosing a router for your home .

Let's check this very button that turns off Wi-Fi on the router. We'll also check what's in the control panel. Since the problem is most often this.

The WLAN light is off, the router is not distributing Wi-Fi. What to do?

First of all, we take our router in hand and look for a button on it that is responsible for enabling / disabling the wireless Wi-Fi network. Usually, this button is labeled as "Wi-Fi", "Wireless On / Off", or simply with a wireless network iconWi-Fi indicator on the router

Button to turn off Wi-Fi on the router.  When the WLAN lamp is off

Some routers do not have this button.

If you find this button, then just click on it once. Wait a little and look at the WLAN indicator, it should light up. If this does not happen, then restart the router (turning off the power for a couple of minutes) , and try pressing the button again. You can press and hold for three seconds. It all depends on the router and settings. Anyway, this should help, and the router should be distributing Wi-Fi.

Checking the status of the Wi-Fi network in the settings

If you did not find the button, or after clicking on it the WLAN network did not appear, you can also check the status of the wireless network in the control panel of the router.

We connect to our router via cable, there are no options here, and go to the settings. If you do not know how to do this, then see the instructions for entering the settings of different routers . It may be that you will not be able to enter the control panel, in which case, look at this article. If you can't log in, and the recommendations do not help, then most likely the router just broke down.

If you are lucky and the control panel has opened, then look for the "Wireless network", "Wi-Fi", "Wireless" tab and open it. It all depends on the model of your router. Let's take a look at the most popular ones.

TOP-5 REASONS FOR REFUSAL TO DRAW UP TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS BY THE CUSTOMER

Are you still accustomed to working “verbally”: not to write down the technical assignment, but to decide everything in a 5-minute telephone conversation?

I bet that you associate the poor quality of the work with the unqualified performer, and not with the lack of technical specifications dark fiber.

This chapter is for you.

Despite the fact that we live in an era of simplification and rejection of bureaucratic procedures, we should not neglect the preparation of terms of reference for your contractors.

Let's take a look at the TOP-5 reasons for refusing to draw up a technical specification by a customer:

“I don’t even know what it is and how to draw up your TK”

This article has been written especially for you. Also, for beginners in the preparation of technical specifications, there is an alternative option.

Almost every freelancer has a brief - a questionnaire that gives an idea of the job and requirements.

By filling out the brief in detail, you can kill two birds with one stone: and give the performer an exact understanding of what they want from him, and write the first terms of reference in life, the main thing is as detailed as possible.

“Why complicate your life? We will quickly discuss everything on the phone and continue to work "

This is the road to nowhere. Firstly, you will not have a file with all the requirements that you set for the performer.

Secondly, memory is a very tricky thing. You (or even worse, the performer) can simply forget everything that you asked for during the conversation.

Plus, you have no guarantee that the employee you are hiring for the project work will be close to you and will be able to come to the organizational meeting.

The world is gradually moving to remote work.

Your performer may be on the other side of the ocean, and correspondence with a discussion of all the working moments sometimes lasts months.

Unlike the TK, which is drawn up in half an hour and does not require clarification.

"I don't have time for all this bureaucracy."

In fact, only you need the terms of reference. After all, the performer does not care whether the work will sell him, whether it will increase the recognition of YOUR brand.

This is your project, your responsibility and your face, so it is worth finding a little time to get the result you want, and in the long run achieve the goals that you have set for yourself.

“We worked before without any technical specifications and everything was fine”

There are only 2 options here: either you are incredibly lucky, or your views coincide 100% with the vision of the artist.

In both the first and second cases, I recommend not to lose the contractor, because this happens very rarely.

"First you need to know the price of work, and not throw off the TK for everyone."

Not a single contractor will be able to tell you the exact price if he does not know the details of the work.

For example, you are looking for a person who will write the text and ask for a price.

The topic, volume, requirements for uniqueness, semantic load - all this affects the cost of the text.

Therefore, I recommend throwing off the TK to all candidates for the role of the executor. So you will receive prices, and the performers, in turn, will know whether the task is within their power or not.

How to avoid mistakes in the preparation of technical specifications

How to find a sample site

Before filling out the technical assignment for the development of a site, the customer is recommended to analyze the sites of competitors in order to get a more accurate and broad understanding of the tasks to be solved. You can also familiarize yourself with ready-made website templates for the desired topic. They can be taken as a basis for developing algorithms for your own site.

In addition to online stores, there are other types of sites: business cards, blogs, portals, etc. It is on the basis of the type that the design should be chosen.

If you need a business card site, pay attention to the sites of private specialists in different areas. For example, to this website of an accounting services company: sow meaning

Sample Accounting Company Website

The site is made in a minimalistic design. Light colors and shades are used, key elements are blue. All together looks harmonious and does not interfere with acquaintance with information. The page contains important menu items: "Services", "Cases", "About us". You can also find answers to frequently asked questions and get advice by ordering a call or by calling yourself.

In addition to competitors' sites, look for interesting examples of layout and design on thematic resources.

So, the TemplateMonster website contains a large number of templates. Among them, you can find a suitable one and indicate it in the TK as an example:

Website templates at TemplateMonster

The Timeweb site also contains many examples of blogs, business cards, online stores, and other types of sites. To get acquainted with the demo version, just click on the corresponding icons from the list:

Templates catalog on Timeweb

How to describe site design

First of all, the customer needs to decide what type of site is needed. The scope of the designer's work and the style of the site depend on this. For example, if you are planning to create a corporate website, then the design will be simple, in the corporate style of your company. For blogs and business cards, it is important to attract the attention of the audience, therefore, the design of these sites has a place for interesting animation and interactive elements.

It is important to convey to the designer your vision of the future site and all its elements as accurately as possible. To do this, you need to describe in the TK your preferences regarding the appearance of the site, namely the following information:

main palette (light or dark),

background color (or example image),

the need to follow the corporate identity of the company,

fonts.

The designer will do his job much faster and more accurately if the appearance of each element of the site is disassembled in the TK:

navigation tools,

hats,

menu,

text blocks, etc.

So, for example, you can specify the preferred shape, color and how to expand the navigation bar

Navigation elements are usually located in the header of the page. It is here that the individuality of the site is formed in the eyes of the user. According to the design canons, the header should occupy a space in the range from 200 to 300 pixels.

In the corresponding column of the technical assignment, you also need to place samples of the company logo and indicate corporate fonts.

Light colors are often chosen for the background of the site. The reason for this decision, as a rule, is that it is more convenient for the user to read text, view images and study other content on a light background.

Text blocks should be designed in accordance with the overall design of the site. At the same time, it is important that the visitor does not have any difficulties in reading the text. In terms of fonts, if the customer doesn't have specific preferences or corporate fonts, Tahoma, Verdana and Arial are the most commonly used ones. The optimal size is from 12 to 16 px. In the TK, you can also indicate how the customer sees the headings. They should be in harmony with the main text, attract the user's attention, but at the same time not interfere with reading.

If the site contains large articles, we recommend that you consider the design of the content block. It is needed for more convenient familiarization with the information and easy transition to certain blocks of the article. To do this, the content points must be made anchors to certain subheadings of the text. Their design may differ from the rest of the links in the text or on the page as a whole.

At the last stage of approval, the developer usually offers the client samples of website designs of the same or related topics, as well as sketches of page elements. The customer can make his own adjustments. After agreeing on all the nuances, stages of work, the method of payment and the timing of the project, the customer approves the TOR, and the developer accepts the order.

How to avoid mistakes in the preparation of technical specifications

When compiling and checking the terms of reference for the development of a site, it is important to take into account even the smallest nuances. Otherwise, you can make such mistakes:

contradictions in requirements,

unclear wording,

principle "2 in 1",

lack of a clear deadline,

responsible persons are not indicated,

too high level of detail,

too many terms

lack of information.

The terms of reference should not contain contradictory statements. For example, if it is assumed that the site will be modernized or modified, then it is not worth prescribing in the technical specification the preparation of those elements that cannot be changed. Make sure that the specified items are not mutually exclusive.

Requirements for the site being developed and the process of its creation should be described in detail, but concisely. Remove vague and incorrect wording from the text.

It is important to prescribe not only the main deadline, but also the deadline for each stage. This will make it easier for both parties to regulate processes.

Indicate in the TOR the employees responsible for each stage of development. For example, the programmer Ivan Petrov is responsible for the technical implementation, and the designer Elena Kuznetsova is responsible for the appearance. Each specialist, according to the document, is responsible for the quality performance of his work on time.

An overly detailed description can be confusing for both the developer and the customer. There is a possibility that the extra information will raise a number of additional questions from the contractor. As a result, everyone runs the risk of wasting time and effort figuring out unnecessary details.

The TK should be clear to both the customer and the contractor. Therefore, the document should be drawn up in a language understandable to both parties. We recommend avoiding professional terms or using them only when absolutely necessary.

Although some columns in the TK are optional, we advise customers, if possible, to fill in everything and indicate comprehensive information for each requested item. This approach helps both parties: the customer - to more clearly imagine the desired result, the performer - to perform his work as efficiently as possible.

The Creative Problem Solver’s Guide to the IT Help Desk

IT is a profession that’s built around the hard science of computing, so for those casual users who haven’t spent much time investigating the ins and outs of computers, it might sound a little dry. Or intimidating. But while there’s plenty to learn about the way computers and networks function in order to manage the technology in a professional environment, hard facts are hardly the half of it. A help desk technician or technical support specialist who’s been in the game for even just a little while can tell you that there’s an art to IT: the better part of providing high-quality service is bringing knowledge to life with creative thinking comptia jobs.

Every help desk ticket poses its own unique challenges, so being able to think on your feet and use creative problem-solving skills is a key to success in IT at every step of the game. This is why the latest update of CompTIA A+, the foundational entry-level IT certification, tests as heavily on the ability to think through problems as it does on the knowledge it takes to recognize them.

If you’re considering IT as a career path, don’t fear that you might be setting yourself up for something boring. Help desk-level IT work is anything but that. To understand how, take a look at the following ways creative problem-solving skills come into play, every day, at the help desk.

Figuring Out What an End User Means Versus What They Say

For the tier 1 help desk technician, simply figuring out what the problem is can take a lot of creative horsepower. That’s because, depending on the end user’s technical abilities, what they ask is not always what they mean.

One of the most common things a help desk pro hears is, “My computer doesn’t work.” This could mean a lot of things – and drilling down to figure out the simplest problem can be a complicated process.

For instance, if an end user complains about a cursor that won’t move around on the screen, that could indicate a computer that has momentarily locked up, a USB mouse that’s not plugged in or even the presence of malware.  Help desk pros even run into people who confuse an internet browser window with network connectivity.

It’s all part of the gig, and managing it requires IT pros to be able to put themselves in the shoes of the less tech-savvy – to think broadly about what’s happening on the other end of the call or chat, reverse-engineer the thought process and figure out what’s actually going on, and then communicate a solution in the way that makes the most sense.
